Halloween PPT Ideas
It’s that time of year! Halloween time.
Maybe you have to give a presentation at a school Halloween party, or maybe you want to take the last few minutes of class to introduce what Halloween is like in America. Each year, I end up doing one of these, and I always find myself putting the task off. It’s another PowerPoint to make, and how to you wrap up what it’s like to be American during Halloween in a few slides, anyway?
Eventually, after ending up staring at a blank PowerPoint presentation each year, I made myself a list of topics I could talk about, and I thought I’d share the list with you. Note! Pictures always make the PowerPoint more interesting. Without further ado, here’s the list:
Halloween decorations
Ghosts, witches, skeletons, mummies, zombies, skulls, spiderwebs, black cats, pumpkins, etc.
While the inside of the house is decorated, you can’t forget the outside!
Halloween candy!
All the normal candy brands get new orange and black wrapping, but we also have a few classics with the chocolate eyeballs and foil-wrapped chocolate ghosts
Candy corn and those candy corn-esque pumpkins
Reese’s pumpkins
Trick or Treat
If you want, you could go into the horrific historical side of this, or just keep it fun.
Don’t forget the code! Keeping your front porch light on means you have candy to share. Lights off means, “Don’t come knocking.”
Haunted Houses
Jack O’Lanterns and Pumpkin Carving
Mentioning pumpkins carving or pumpkin painting competitions is really fun. And showing some cool pictures of Pikachu or the Avengers on a pumpkin always gets a good reaction.
Halloween Parties
This could entail bobbing for apples or having costume competitions.
I always like to mention the scary food we might eat at a halloween party, for example strawberries dipped in white chocolate so they look like ghosts or breadsticks that look like severed fingers. It’s always fun to show them a picture, and have them tell me what food it is.
Costumes!
Although scary costumes are the norm, you don’t have to dress scary. You could have a funny costume. Halloween is a time when you can be whoever you want
(I’ve found, when I didn’t wear a scary costume to a Halloween party in China, everyone was confused. Somehow the news that you could dress up as anything never made it to most of them.)
It’s also super fun to tell them that some people dress up their animals for Halloween too. And, come on, who doesn’t love pictures of adorable cats and dogs as supermen and pumpkins?
Halloween movies
Sometimes I mention that many people like to watch special Halloween movies at this time. I show stills of the Nightmare Before Christmas, Corpse Bride, Hocus Pocus, or Halloweentown for fun. Holiday movies aren’t common in China.
